Sneak Peak for the Rising Stars 2026 Project Showcase:

Feel-OS — “Therapy as Living Art"

CARNEGIE MELON UNIVERSITY

Feel-OS transforms emotional reflection into a live, participatory art work. A visitor wears a lightweight EEG headset, speaks into a microphone, and watches a generative soundscape and visual environment respond in real time. Language and brain signals jointly drive dynamic imagery, music, and text: a moment of anxiety might swell into a storm; a breath of calm can sprout roots and open light; a single word – “fish,” “home,” “lost”, can seed a visual metaphor that unfolds immediately. Crucially, the experience is open-ended: visitors control its length and depth. They may speak a single sentence, sit in silence, or carry on for as long as they wish while the system continuously composes a coherent, evolving narrative

VantagePLC: Cyber Awareness & Visualization Dashboard

University: University of South Carolina – Columbia | Savannah River National Laboratory

A small form-factor computing system for real-time data collection, anomaly detection, and visualization in OT networks. The system will focus on monitoring and analyzing PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) data within industrial environments, with the ultimate goal of enhancing cybersecurity and operational efficiency through AI-driven insights. There will be a dashboard that provides an at-a-glance view of the network’s current state, with an emphasis on rapid anomaly detection and drill-down visibility.

External GPU Power Supply

Oregon State University

This project replace the onboard Voltage Regulation Module (VRM) on any consumer grade Graphic Processing Unity (GPU) for the purpose of extreme overclocking. The device solders onto the power plane under the inductors; it can supply up 450A on the core output channel and 100A on the memory output channel.

Decoding Federated Learning: The FedNAM+ Conformal Revolution

University of California San Diego

FedNAM+ is a federated learning framework that leverages new conformal predictions method and Neural Additive Models (NAMs) to deliver both interpretability and reliable uncertainty estimation in predictive modeling. These sensitivity maps enable the identification of key input features contributing to the model’s predictions. FedNAM+ framework offers a more efficient and interpretable approach to uncertainty quantification, particularly in federated learning contexts, by leveraging NAM’s to ensure robust performance across distributed clients while maintaining a high level of interpretability and reduced computational overhead.

Real-time Strength Training Monitoring, Feedback and Gamification System Using Wearable IMU Sensors and Advanced Signal Processing Algorithms

We aim to develop a comprehensive strength training monitoring system using a wearable sensor that provides real-time auditory and visual feedback on user repetitions, while also incorporating a point-based reward system to gamify exercise. The system uses an inertial measurement unit (IMU) mounted on the upper arm to capture accelerometer and gyroscope data. The app processes this data to measure key performance metrics such as range of motion (ROM), velocity, and duration. It conveys this information through auditory feedback played via in-ear monitors (IEMs), and visual feedback presented as charts.into a storm; a breath of calm can sprout roots and open light; a single word – “fish,” “home,” “lost”, can seed a visual metaphor that unfolds immediately. Crucially, the experience is open-ended: visitors control its length and depth.
